Prioritising Sustainable Leadership

Prioritising Sustainable Leadership

We are at a critical crossroads. Either leaders keep focusing solely on profit or they decide to switch to focusing on business results that are aligned with long-term sustainability goals.

When Sustainability is viewed as being a matter of survival for your business, I believe you can create massive change.

Shifting to Sustainability: A Mindset shift

We must shift our behaviours, our production processes and the way we manage our environment. It is not too late to create a better, more sustainable planet.  Unfortunately, changing one’s behaviour is not simple. That is why we need more leaders and influencers to help shift the behaviour of other leaders and encourage individuals to make a change.

For the concept of sustainable leadership to be established and become a pillar of every business strategy, boards and business leaders must have the knowledge, perceptions, and data required to oversee performance and prepare for a sustainable future over the long term. Many businesses make statements about sustainability, but they frequently do not follow through. We need more leaders who have the courage and commitment to put their words into action.

Many corporate leaders have campaigned for innovative initiatives in sustainability while growing their companies at the same. Among them are Tim Cook from Apple, Claus Aagaard from Mars, Jesper Brodin from IKEA, and Paul Polman, the former CEO of Unilever.

Every one of us has the power to choose and do things that can ultimately improve the world. Consumers increasingly choose to buy products from companies that share their values. It needs to be a priority to establish a sustainable culture on a global scale. Sustainable Leaders can influence the shift that needs to happen to change for a better world.
