Transformational leadership = Situational leadership

Transformational Leadership = Situational Leadership

The transformational leadership style is closely related to situational leadership as it provides a powerful framework for leaders to unlock motivation and purpose within their teams in ways that make sense for them.

“Can you explain your vision to the janitors and canteen staff in one sentence? Your vision should be relatable in order to be inspiring.”

~ Dennis Akkerman MBA

By adapting your leadership style to the readiness level of your employees, you can address their unique motivational needs. More importantly, to inspire people you need to relate to their world, their thought patterns and their motivational drivers. What’s in it for them?

There is no point in organising a townhall meeting, talking about strategy in terms of market share, profitability, synergy – that really doesn’t inspire employees. Having a shared purpose, create a sense of belonging (we’re in this together) and the ability to translate what your vision means for their daily job is essential to engage and motivate employees. Can you explain your vision to the janitors and canteen staff in one sentence? Your vision should be relatable in order to be inspiring.

Transformation occurs when minds are open and change is embraced rather than feared.
