Welcome to our SDG series: SDG 7 – Affordable and clean energy

Novozymes is a company focused on providing enzyme and microorganism solutions for various industries, including bioenergy, agriculture, food, and household care. Novozymes Malaysia, being a part of the larger Novozymes organisation, contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) through its operations and initiatives.

Novozymes is working with others to make sure everyone can get affordable and clean energy. They have been helping the UN with their ‘’Sustainable Energy for All Initiative’’ since 2013. This initiative is a group of individuals who want to use sustainable bioenergy to meet bigger goals, like helping farmers extract energy from plants, turning waste into energy, making clean fuel from plants, and creating eco-friendly airplane fuel.

In 2015, Novozymes officially started this effort, and it has become a global team for sharing ideas and making things happen. It is bringing together businesses, governments, and individuals to help rural areas, and use less fossil fuel. Just a year later, this project is speeding up the use of clean energy in 18 countries and working with a campaign called ‘’below50’’ to get more companies using eco-friendly fuels.

Therefore Novozymes supports is the ‘’European Union Biobased Industries Joint Undertaking’’ (BBI JU), which they played a role in establishing back in 2014. The BBI JU is a public-private partnership that brings together the European Commission and industries involved in developing and deploying innovative biobased products and processes. Its primary objective is to foster sustainable economic growth, create new jobs, and reduce Europe’s reliance on fossil fuels by utilising renewable resources.

Novozymes contributions and participation in this initiative helps to drive research, development, and deployment of biobased solutions across various sectors, including for example agriculture, chemicals, and biofuels.
