Setting Sail for Change: The Transformational Journey of Time2Tack

Time2Tack is a non-profit organisation, which was founded with a clear purpose. In conversation with Kees de Walle, the visionary founder of Time2Tack, he shares his personal story and the journey of his foundation committed to cleaning our oceans towards a sustainable future.

How did Time2Tack start?

Kees’s inspiration for Time2Tack started from his sailing adventures across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North Sea. No matter where he sailed, he witnessed the plastic pollution everywhere. He decided it was Time2Tack, metaphorically changing course towards cleaner oceans. Their vision is crystal clear – a sustainable society with flourishing oceans. Their mission? Raise awareness, alter behaviour, and guiding people in making change.

Challenges Along the Way

The journey of establishing a foundation was not a smooth sailing. Kees underscores the need to involve more people and businesses early on to act . You need to act in order to activate people and not sit back. Learning from this, Time2Tack’s focus will be expanding its network and involving a larger community. Because alone you can do so little; together we can do so much.

Changing Sailing for Good

Unfortunately the sailing industry itself is not sustainable yet. ‘’The first step of taking action is creating awareness’’. On board there is a lot of ignorance when it comes to sustainable practices. ‘’For one instance, I was sailing with a young sailing team. They threw what they thought ‘’disposable plastic bags’’ in the sea because the bags were soluble. However, that is only when you burry it underground. At sea it will just float’’.

Kees aspires to change these habits and educate other sailors about reusable practices.
‘’We are using the sailing sport and on-shore programmes to create more awareness among people about our oceans and especially what they can do themselves to help make the oceans and seas healthy again’’.

Big Plans for 2024

The goals for 2024 are bold and impactful. Time2Tack plans to grow its network by featuring a sustainability partner each month, letting them tell their story.

Furthermore they will continue to organise more local activities, aiming to turn Time2Tack into a force for good. They have developed sustainable seafood dinners, guiding us on choosing fish that’s caught in an eco-friendly way. There’s also an idea to start a refill program for cosmetics and detergents, cutting down on single-use plastics.

Workshops onboard of the sailing yacht ‘Fandango’ with guest speakers have been highly successful and will continue in 2024. Time2Tack is teaming up with Orbis Business School, making them both informative and fun networking sessions. The partnership with Orbis is a perfect match with shared values and goals. Time2Tack wants to create awareness through education and programmes for future leaders. We believe everyone can be a transformational leader, and this starts with oneself.

Words of Wisdom

At the end of our conversation, Kees left us with a powerful message: ‘’It all starts with yourself. Time2Tack is not just a foundation; it’s a call to action for a sustainable and cleaner future. Let’s start to make a difference together and join the movement.’’
