Welcome to our SDG series: SDG 10 - Reduced inequalities

SDG 10

IKEA is a multinational that sells furniture and home goods, and is dedicated to SDG 10; Reduced inequalities. They updated their plan for sustainability and added a new part called “Fair & Equal.” This shows IKEA is serious about fighting inequality and making sure they respect people’s rights in everything they do.

IKEA is determined to pay fair wages to everyone who helps make their products. Because of problems like the pandemic and climate change, inequality is getting worse worldwide. Companies like IKEA have a big role to play in making sure everyone has what they need and gets treated equally. The head of Inter IKEA Group, Jon Abrahamsson Ring, says, “We know our business affects many people, so we must always think about how it impacts them and their rights.” Keeping their focus on people and the planet as they grow.

IKEA’s new plan is all about making sure they respect human rights, helping everyone involved in making their products, and support strong communities. This includes workers, their families, and the places where IKEA works and sells its products. They asked many different people, both inside and outside the company, for ideas when they updated their plan. Lars-Erik Fridolfsson, who led the update, says it is vital for IKEA to think about how they impact people and make sure they create jobs across their entire supply chain.

CEO Jon Abrahamsson Ring, adds, “We are looking at ways to make our products more inclusive and helpful for society. This might mean working with new businesses or creating new ideas that help everyone.”

In championing fairness, equality, and human rights within their operations and supply chain, IKEA stands as an example aligning with SDG 10, illustrating a strong commitment that goes beyond business, creating a fairer world for everyone.
